International experts discuss the use of Air Plethysmography for the simultaneous assessment of venous occlusion and reflux

Under the title “APG for simultaneous detection of occlusion and reflux,” international experts discussed how Air Plethysmography (APG) can be used to assess different aspects of venous hemodynamics within a single examination.

A More Comprehensive View of Venous Hemodynamics
The assessment of chronic venous disease often involves different diagnostic methods, each providing specific information about the venous system.
The workshop demonstrated how the SOT APG System provides a functional approach for assessing venous drainage and reflux simultaneously.
In addition to the diagnostic application of APG, the session addressed the relevance of preoperative APG assessment, real-world case examples and before-and-after measurements in patients undergoing venous treatment.
The examples illustrated how objective assessment of venous hemodynamics can provide additional information to support clinical decision-making, treatment planning and follow-up.
From Measurement to Clinical Decision-Making
A key focus of the workshop was the practical application of APG.
Using a clinical case, the experts demonstrated how changes in venous function can be assessed before and after treatment. The recorded curves provide objective information about venous filling, drainage and functional working volume.
APG measurements can provide functional information about venous hemodynamics and illustrate changes before and after treatment.
The case presented during the workshop included measurements before treatment, during preoperative assessment and two months after laser treatment of the great saphenous vein (GSV). The curves demonstrated changes in venous filling behaviour and working volume following treatment.
International Expertise
The workshop brought together experts from different areas of vascular medicine.
The speakers included Dr. Erika Mendoza (Germany), Dr. Ravul Jindal (India), Dr. Mohamed Omar Elfarok (Egypt) and Dr. Mahmoud Elghadban (Switzerland).
The international panel provided clinical perspectives on functional venous assessment and discussed how objective diagnostic information can complement established approaches to venous disease.
